چکیده

This report 1 describes the influence of natural estrogens on liver function, with special reference to sulfobromophthalein (BSP) excretion, in man. Pharmacological amounts of the hormone estradiol consistently induced alterations in BSP disposal that were shown, through the techniques of Wheeler and associates (2, 3), to result from profound depression of the hepatic secretory transport maximum (Tm) for the dye. Chromatographic analysis of plasma BSP components revealed increased amounts of BSP conjugates during estrogen as compared with control periods, implying a hormonal effect on cellular processes concerned with transport of dye from hepatocytes into biliary canaliculi. Estriol, an in vivo transformation product of estradiol, also impaired hepatic disposal of BSP in man. According to unpublished data of Hertz (4) 2 estrone, ethinyl estradiol, and equine estrogens act similarly, and it is likely that other C-18 steroids of both physiologic and synthetic origin have this property as well. These observations define a new

Studies on hepatic sulfobromophthalein removal during infusion.

Experiments were performed with the infusion of sulfobromophthalein (BSP) for brief periods (15 mm.) in man, following an initial massive dose of dye at the beginning of the experiment. Infusion was such as to ensure a continuous increase in the plasma BSP level. In these conditions, BSP removal due to the storage capacity of the liver was studied. The rate of removal was found to depend on the...

I-1: Effect of High Intratesticular Estrogen on

Background: The presence of estrogen receptor beta and aromatase in the germ cell has highlighted the physiological role of the traditionally female hormone, estrogen, in spermatogenesis. Estrogen receptor alpha knockouts and aromatase knockouts have further accentuated the role of estrogen in germ cell maturation. To delineate effects of high intratesticular estradiol in the seminiferous epith...

The effects of estradiol and estriol on plasma levels of cortisol and thyroid hormone-binding globulins and on aldosterone and cortisol secretion rates in man.

The effects of estriol and estradiol on the plasma levels of cortisol- and thyroxine-binding globulin activity, and on the secretion rates of aldosterone and cortisol were studied in man. The metabolite estriol had no consistent or significant influence on plasma levels of the hormone-binding globulin activities; the hormone estradiol increased these binding capacities significantly, as expecte...
